Daniel is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser, and composer best known for his work with Peter James, Genre Peak, and sandbox trio.
Daniel's musical training started at age 12 when he began studying classical guitar with Jack Warren in Sacramento, California. At 16, he began studying Jazz with Boyd Phelps and Russ Abraham. During his early 20's, Daniel began to expand his interests to include percussion and saxophone; and in 1992, alongside Martin Birke and Chuck Ehlis in sandbox trio, he fully immersed himself in sound experimentation and instrument building.
Daniel has composed music for a variety of instruments and settings, including piano, saxophone quartet, classical guitar & accordion, and music for former bands Thwack and BUB Orchestra. In addition to utilizing traditional methods, he has also explored random compositional techniques inspired by John Cage. He has scored 2 films in collaboration with sandbox trio: Animals and Heartbeat.
Since 2000 Daniel has been primarily performing and recording with the Chapman Stick and electric upright bass.

Footnotes to Fairytales is the delightful debut release by British singer-songwriter Peter James. Dramatic, passionate and reflective, the songs stimulate imagery and emotion. It will delight any listener who is willing to brave a journey of heartbreak and capable of understanding its beauty. This is lush, cinematic folk music - thoughtful, subtly complex and intelligently composed.
Reaching across genres, Peter James is a part of the rich folk singer-songwriter tradition, which he combines with a popular music sensibility and a compositional sophistication. Supported by the unique instrumentation of 8-string guitar, Chapman Stick, electric-upright bass and fretless guitar accompanied by light touches of percussion, tabla, harmonium and cello, this work is intricate and daring.
Born on the grey, gloomy shores of South Wales, Peter began writing and performing in the United Kingdom where his vocals soaked in the influences of David Sylvian, Morrissey, Everything But The Girl, and Lloyd Cole. He later made his way to San Francisco via Southeast Asia. Inspired by melodic percussive rhythms and the Classical Minimalist compositions of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, he takes a fresh approach to guitar playing and songwriting.
A visual and acoustic journey, Footnotes to Fairytales stands on its own.
